The truth is always grey"

(Anselm Kiefer)

I am an Italian artist, living between London and Antibes, with a previous international career in Technology.

Somebody said that I paint “what silence looks like”.

I am influenced by Abstract Expressionism, Art Informel and Arte Povera, with a healthy obsession for Antoni Tàpies and Anselm Kiefer.

Susan Sontag, in her influential 1964 essay “Against Interpretation”, challenged the dominance of interpretative criticism, calling instead for an art experience based on direct perception and emotional effect, which can subsequently lead to a deeper analysis.

In the same spirit, my paintings do not ask to be decoded in search of conceptual representation, rather to be felt for their immediate visible texture and chromatic impact.

Maybe I paint past and present, reality and nostalgia, decay and brilliance, through time and space.

To express this, I like to create rich, physical surfaces, pursuing a contemplative, tactile, quiet abstract style, using acrylic and other mixed media, often incorporating plaster, graphite, fabric, paper, or even rope and string, to build layered surfaces with a tacit but palpable presence. Colours can be desaturated, greys, rusts, anthracites, although often disrupted by gold exclamations - the latter is almost an obsession that I unsuccessfully try to control.

Look and you will find scars, mending, loss, marks, fragments, erasures, shine, decay, subtractions, accumulations, absence, fragility, gravity, liquidity, gestures, silence.

I have exhibited in galleries and art fairs in France and UK.
