Nel romanzo Monsieur Teste di Paul Valéry, EdmondTeste conduce una vita piatta quasi in quarantena, spoglia di opinioni o di emozioni. Odia la malinconia e lo straordinario, e persino il complimento è` per lui un’ingiuria. Monsieur Teste rappresenta la figura del creatore senza opera, di intellettuale senza libro, di artista senza gloria. È un Monsieur Teste un po’ scapigliato, trasandato, grigio e beige, con tre citazioni che mi hanno colpito.

In Paul Valéry’s novel Monsieur Teste, Edmond Teste leads a flat life, almost in quarantine, stripped of opinions or emotions. He hates melancholy and the extraordinary, and even a compliment is to him an insult. Monsieur Teste represents the figure of the creator without an oeuvre, the intellectual without a book, the artist without glory. It is a somewhat dishevelled, unkempt, grey and beige Monsieur Teste, accompanied by three quotations that struck me.
