Il blu di Prussia 2026

Il blu di Prussia, che poi vestì un’armata, è un pigmento inorganico, scoperto per caso nel 1706, da J.J. Diesbach, tintore svizzero a Berlino, che cercava di ottenere una lacca rossa tramite ossidazione del ferro, dal cianuro e da sangue animale. Il colore inatteso lo lasciò esterrefatto. Una formula che peraltro diventa tossica in certe condizioni. Quindi bellezza e veleno sotto la stessa superficie, rappresentati nel pannello centrale del trittico: una sorta di scrigno, con il blu che si screpola e rivela i componenti iniziali.

Prussian Blue, the colour which would later dress an army, is an inorganic pigment, discovered by chance in 1706 by J.J. Diesbach, a Swiss dyer working in Berlin, who was attempting to obtain a red lacquer through the oxidation of iron, using cyanide and animal blood. The unexpected colour left him astonished. A formula that, under certain conditions, becomes toxic. Thus, beauty and poison lie beneath the same surface, represented in the central panel of the triptych: a kind of casket, with the blue cracking to reveal its original components.
